Harper the Best – and Worst – PM Since Trudeau

About one in five Canadians think Harper's just aces, while another one in five ... not so much. Oh, and no one likes Brian Mulroney.

Canadians think Prime Minister Stephen Harper is both the best PM since Pierre Trudeau and the worst, perhaps suggesting he's the most polarizing head of government of the last 50 years. Nineteen per cent of respondents in an Angus Reid poll picked Harper as the best, up eight points from last year, while another 19 per cent also picked Harper as the worst (another 19 per cent went to Brian Mulroney, although he had far, far fewer supporters – just six per cent of resondents). Trudeau, not surprisingly, nearly doubled Harper in support, with 36 per cent picking him as the best. Jean Chrétien, who was the second-most popular last time around, fell to 12 per cent, while Paul Martin, Kim Campbell, Joe Clark, and John Turner all rounded out the bottom, not that they really count for much. Harper's jump in support from the last survey probably has something to do with him winning a majority government, but since we're not pollsters, we're going to guess that it has more to do with Canadians' ever-growing acceptance of Harper's hair.
