Aug. 15, 2011: The day that television died?

In a sign that maybe we should just say screw it and hope for that 2012 apocalypse, news comes that Sex and The City is about to be revived while AMC's Breaking Bad, the best show on television, will call it a day after the fifth and final season next year. Sarah Jessica Parker says she's signed on to produce a reboot of the HBO program about women, sex, and clothes (as far as we can tell, at least), which was fine and harmless unto itself until it spawned two God-forsaken wretches passed off as films that entirely undid any goodwill the series had earned among, well, us, at least. Meanwhile, Breaking Bad, the show about a high-school-chemistry-teacher-turned-meth-dealer that's in its fourth (and possibly best) season, will draw to a close in a 16-episode season set for next year after Sony and AMC agreed to the deal. While it's probably for the better that Breaking Bad ends before it jumps the shark, and we have no doubt that Vince Gilligan will probably make that the most nerve-wracking 16 episodes in television history, we'd be lying if we said this didn't sting.
