Hey, every 125-year-old lady is entitled to have a little work done from time to time.
The world’s most famous giant green lady it set to close for a year so she can undergo renovations. The crown, pedestal, and museum in the Statue of Liberty will close on October 29th following the statue's 125th anniversary. The statue will continue to pose, however, for classic Kodak moments. Meanwhile, a $27.25 million renovation project will bring in new stairways, bathrooms, and elevators. This is the second time this decade the infamous tourist attraction has closed, after security concerns shut her down following the 9/11 terror attacks. The monument reopened in 2004 with an enhanced security system. The Statue of Liberty's superintendent, David Luchsinger, reassured the public that while the statue is safe now, it will be "so much safer" when renovations are done.
