The Shabab rebel group fled the capital of Somalia on Saturday, giving hope to thousands of residents in need of aid.

Finally, some (possibly) good news for the starving people of Mogadishu. The Shabab Islamist rebel group suddenly pulled out of the capital of Somalia on Saturday after years of tormenting residents with suicide bombs and, most recently, blocking aid groups from delivering food to thousands of famine victims. Control of the city will now belong to the transitional federal government in the region where thousands of children are on the brink of starving to death. While many residents took to the streets to celebrate, others were concerned about the abrupt and ominous message the rebel group left on departure. The Shabab, which has sworn allegiance to al-Qaeda, said it vacated for tactical purposes and “would be back soon.”
