Cheap Trick Cancels Vancouver Gig over Stage Company

The band's near-death experience in Ottawa turns them off from ever mounting a stage provided by Mega Stage again.
Cheap Trick has cancelled a concert scheduled for Vancouver because the company that made the stage they were to play on is the same one that built the one that collapsed when the band played at Ottawa's Bluesfest last month. The gig, scheduled for Sept. 1 at the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver, has been called off because Cheap Trick says they will not play any more shows involving Mega Stage. The July 17 show at Bluesfest came to a crashing halt right after Cheap Trick finished “I Want You To Want Me”, as gale-force winds knocked over scaffolding and destroyed the stage, injuring four people, although none seriously. The Chicago-based band has been particularly vocal about their near-death experience, as they escaped the stage merely seconds before it collapsed. There's no word about whether Cheap Trick will change venues or if the Vancouver show is off altogether.
