The protest campaign is already 6,600 people strong.

Here’s an idea Torontonians can get behind: Margaret Atwood for Mayor. Though the renowned author has no intentions of actually running for office, the "Atwood for Mayor" movement has seen overnight success in the city. Over 6,600 people have rallied around the fictional campaign to show support for Toronto libraries and protest Rob Ford’s spending cutbacks. Atwood thanked campaigners for their support but clarified on her Twitter page “Noo, not running for Mayor…too old. Used to think Too Ignorant, but that hasn't stopped some.” Earlier this week, city councilor Doug Ford, the mayor's brother, feuded publicly with Atwood over library cutbacks, boasting that "he doesn't even know who she is." The Atwood for Mayor campaign has seen rapid success on Twitter and Facebook and is beginning to creep up on walls and coffee shops across the T.Dot. Talk about a Fordian slip.
