Montreal Man Denies Accusation of War Crimes

A Congolese man facing deportation told an immigration hearing today that he's dumbfounded over why he's been included on the war criminals list.

A man arrested following his appearance on the federal government's most-wanted list of suspected war criminals facing deportation says he's committed no such crimes and was merely a computer technician working for the Congolese government. Abraham Bahaty Bayavuge, a Montreal resident with six children, said at an immigration hearing today that he hadn't so much as killed a cat while working for the Congolese government before fleeing the Democratic Republic of Congo to the U.S. and then to Canada in 2000. While Bayavuge is still almost certain to be deported soon, the commissioner overseeing his hearing thought that the government's claim that he's a war criminal seemed suspect at best.
