Khabibulin's Tent City Sentence Softened

The Oilers' goalie only has to sleep at the austere jail, and will get to spend his days practicing to be underwhelming once the NHL season begins.

So much for our belief yesterday that Edmonton Oilers' goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin would have to spend 15 days in pink boxers and and a black-and-white-striped jumpsuit at Arizona's Tent City jail. Despite Sheriff Joe Arpaio's insistence that the drunk-driving goalie would face the same harsh treatment as everyone else in the throwback jail, the judge presiding over Khabibulin's case said that he only has to be in jail from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. each day, meaning he can go home or anywhere else he pleases during the day. If he doesn't follow the rules (and the kind of guy who gets loaded drunk before speeding his Ferarri around the Arizona desert doesn't sound like the kind of guy who puts a premium on rules), though, Khabibulin will be forced to spend 15 full days of hard time.
