The most powerful military on the planet will have 60 days to get ready for gay members to serve openly.
The Pentagon is set to give its approval to the repeal of the American military's “Don't ask, don't tell” policy that prevents gay service members to openly state their sexuality. The repeal began last year with a bill that set out a process for how to do away with the provision was passed by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama. One of the main parts of the process was to get the repeal certified by the Pentagon, indicating that the military is onside with the motion. The Joint Chiefs of Staff and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta are set to do just that today after discussing the matter with Obama, after which a 60-day waiting period will follow to give the military time to make sure rules and regulations to comply.
