Audit Suggests Privatizing TTC Lines to Save Money

And now for another installment of "Gravy Train Blues"...

As the City of Toronto looks for ways to cut spending, the auditing firm in charge of the review has suggested privativizing transit routes and doing away with the after-hours “Blue Night” buses that ferry (often inebriated) customers home after subways stop running. The KPMG audit says the Toronto Transit Commission stands to make a healthy chunk of change if it opens up bus or light-rail lines, although doing so would require changing the TTC's collective bargaining agreement, and good luck getting that passed without some serious labour reaction. KPMG's full audit is set to be released tomorrow, and will reportedly say that finding $774 million in savings won't be anywhere near as easy as a certain mayor of a certain largest city in Canada said it would be.
