Rev. Mark Dowd, the telecom-exec-turned-priest, is a well known blogger who's caught the eye of the Vatican.
A Canadian Catholic priest who's taken up the morally questionable practice of “blogging” is set to become the country's youngest – and the world's second-youngest – bishop. Rev. Mark Dowd, at 40 years old, will be ordained on Sept. 10 in Montreal's Mary, Queen of the World cathedral, at which point he will become that diocese's auxillary bishop. The Vatican apparently thought highly of Dowd's social-media work – dude's working on a mobile-phone app – when they decided to promote him, likely in no small part due to the fact that the Catholic Church has been desperate to remain relevant to people younger than 65. (That whole massive pedophilia scandal probably didn't help matters much, either.)
