Phone Hacking

London Police Chief Resigns, PM Calls for Emergency Session

Cameron: My hiring of a former NoW editor for a PR gig is different than the police's hiring of a former NoW editor for a PR gig.

Another day, another career ended by the News of the World phone-hacking scandal: Paul Stephenson, the commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, resigned because he had hired a former editor from the tabloid for public relations work with the police. You might have noticed that Prime Minister David Cameron did the exact same thing (less the resigning) with Andy Coulson, who's since been arrested for his role in the phone scandal. Cameron insisted the political scandal is separate from the police scandal while calling for an emergency session of Parliament for this Wednesday, the day after Rupert Murdoch, his son James, and former NoW editor Rebekah Brooks are set to testify at a committee hearing, which is going to be just bonkers.
