The 67-year-old quit without notice after working for Murdoch for over 50 years.
Les Hinton, Chief Executive Officer of Murdoch’s Dow Jones & Co and Publisher of the Wall Street Journal, announced his resignation on Friday following the Murdoch Empire's phone-hacking scandal. The 67-year-old, who was once chairman of Murdoch’s British newspaper arm, resigned on the spot after working for the mogul for 52 years. In his resignation letter, Hinton wrote that while he “was ignorant of what happened,” he was deeply apologetic to those hurt by News of the World. Hinton is the first major executive in the United States to leave the Murdoch Empire, which also owns Fox News, the New York Post, The Sun, The Times, and The Sunday Times. Rebekah Brooks, CEO of News International, resigned earlier in the day.
