Oh, and he raised $350,000 for starving children in Kenya in the process. What have YOU done this week?
A 54-year-old grandfather appears to have set the record for biking across Canada, travelling from Vancouver to Halifax in an astounding 13 days, six hours, and 13 minutes. Arvid Loewen's record of biking the 6,000-odd kilometres from coast-to-coast has yet to be verified by Guinness World Records, but the grandfather of three, who slept for only two hours most nights during his trek, is certain he beat the old standard by three hours. Taking off from Vancouver on Canada Day, Loewen was set back for 18 hours toward the end of his journey due to fluid gathering in his legs. To make up for the lost time, Loewen biked for 40 hours straight in his final stretch to Halifax, where he was greeted by family and friends. Loewen raised $350,000 for a charity to help Kenyan children in the process.
