Forty million pieces of mail still need tending to after nearly two weeks of disrupted service.

Canada Post says its mail delivery will be back to normal by the end of next week after it clears a backlog of some 40 million letters. Mail delivery was halted for nearly two weeks last month after Canada Post locked out its 48,000 employees, who had been holding rotating strikes across the country. Postal workers are moving through 50 per cent more mail a day than is usual, with some 27 million pieces being processed each day as opposed to the typical 18 million. Canada Post has offered to pay its workers overtime as they sort through the backlog, which ought to make up a little for the deal imposed by the Conservatives that will pay them less than what Canada Post had been offering.
