Justice Lori Douglas will be only the ninth judge ever to be subjected to a public inquiry.
A public inquiry will be held into the deeds of Justice Lori Douglas, whose lawyer husband allegedly tried to get a client to have sex with his wife and posted nude photos of her online. The public inquiry is only the ninth to examine the behaviour of a judge since 1971, when the Canadian Judicial Council first began the practice. The CJC said the allegations against Douglas could be serious enough to have the associate chief justice removed from the Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench, as severe a punishment as the CJC can mete out. Douglas' husband, Jack King, tried to convince a client of his, Alex Chapman, to have sex with his wife after showing him explicit photos of her online. When he refused, King paid Chapman $25,000 to keep quiet about the ordeal. King was later reprimanded and fined $13,000 by the Law Society of Manitoba.
