Greek Parliament Fast-Tracks Second Austerity Bill

Central Athens is now calm after two days of violent demonstrations swept through the city.

Greek legislators passed a bill on Thursday to fast-track new austerity measures demanded by international creditors so they can make more money available, which would enable the bankrupt country to meet expenses throughout the summer. On Wednesday, Greek Parliament narrowly agreed to the austerity package of spending cuts and tax increases. With the latest vote, the European Union and International Monetary Fund are expected to release $17 billion in aid to Greece to avoid the country's bankruptcy.
