Pope Tweets For First Time

Considering it only took the Catholic church some 1,500 years to drop Latin from masses, this is definitely progress.

Pope Benedict XVI has tweeted for the first time, and his first missive on the micro-blogging platform was ... a rather pedestrian recommendation for followers to check out the Vatican's new news portal, news.va. “Dear Friends, I just launched News.va Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI,” tweeted God's representative on the mortal coil. Benedict hasn't launched his own account yet, as he sent the tweet through news.va's account, but, if he ever chose to sign up, he already has about 1.1 billion followers around the world – a few hundred million more than Justin Bieber or Ashton Kutcher could ever hope to have.
