Activists Call for White House Pipeline Protests

TransCanada's Keystone XL Pipeline is drawing a concerted protest effort from the continent's top activists.
A handful of top-flight Canadian and U.S. activists – Naomi Klein, David Suzuki, Maude Barlow, Danny Glover – will organize daily protests outside the White House in August with the goal of getting the Obama administration to refuse construction of the TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline. The 11 activists released a letter yesterday calling for environmentally minded citizens to converge in Washington, D.C., for daily demonstrations, warning that they would probably face arrest. The State Department will be reviewing in August whether to grant permission for the pipeline's construction, which would allow crude oil to flow from northern Alberta to Port Arthur, Texas.
