Even when the season ends, hockey is never really over, with the awards ceremony held last night and the draft set for this weekend.
The Vancouver Canucks won a bunch of consolation prizes at the NHL Awards ceremony last night in Las Vegas, with Daniel Sedin being voted by fellow players as the league's best player, Ryan Kesler winning the Selke Trophy for best defensive forward, and Mike Gillis nabbing the award for the league's best general manager. Tim Thomas, the Boston Bruins' goaltender, topped off his historic season with the Vezina Trophy as the league's best goalie, the Anaheim Ducks' gritty forward Corey Perry took home the Hart Trophy for league MVP, and the Detroit Red Wings' ageless Nik Lidstrom won the Norris Trophy for best defenceman. Jeff Skinner of the Carolina Hurricanes won the Calder Trophy for rookie of the year, and the Pittsburgh Penguins' Dan Bylsma was named coach of the year.
