The Souris River is wreaking havoc on the low-lying areas southeast of Regina following record-setting flooding in Manitoba and Quebec.
Southeastern Saskatchewan is desperate for relief from seemingly endless rain and floods that have blanketed whole towns. Since May 1, more rain has fallen around Estevan, Sask., than in any other time since records have been kept. The heavy rains have pushed the Souris River over its banks, forcing 24 communities to declare states of emergency. The town of Roche Percee, near the U.S. border, is already completely submerged, with more rain expected throughout the week. Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall has said he's talked with the prime minister about freeing up flood relief funds to help the 800 people who have been forced to leave their homes.
