The largest mass arrest in Canadian history yields far fewer convictions as Vancouver gears up for its own riot-related arrests.

Of the 1,100 people arrested during the G20 summit last year in Toronto, just 24 have been convicted of the charges against them. All told, police laid charges against 330 of those arrested, 56 of whom have yet to stand trial. That makes the conviction rate less than 10 per cent for cases that have been processed. Meanwhile, in riot-stricken Vancouver, police have so far laid charges against six people in connection with the destruction and looting that followed the Canucks' Stanley Cup loss last week. Police there have also promised an independent review of how they handled the riots.
