With talks stalled between the union and management, the Canada Post strike could be ended via legislation.
The Air Canada strike might have ended with minimal distraction or delay, but the Canada Post lockout/strike shows no signs of ending without proposed back-to-work legislation. Representatives of the 48,000 members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers and Canada Post didn't even meet over the weekend to negotiate, with union president Denis Lemelin sounding resigned to government intervention as the only means to get staff working again. Labour Minister Lisa Raitt will introduce a back-to-work bill this week if the two parties can't resolve their pension and wage issues on their own.
