We knew that there were dozens of middle-aged men posing as young women online, but not like this ...
After yesterday's news that the blogger behind Amina Arraf, the “Gay Girl in Damascus," was actually a straight man from Edinburgh, another man has, well, come out to say that he, too, was writing as a lesbian on the website LezGetReal.com, the first site to publish Arraf's work. Bill Graber, a U.S. Air Force veteran, admitted that he wrote under the pseudonym “Paula Brooks” for three years, explaining that he thought his advocacy for gay rights would be taken more seriously if it came from a lesbian and not a straight man. Graber said it was purely coincidental that he published the work of Arraf, who turned out to be 40-year-old Tom MacMaster. MacMaster's alias gained worldwide attention after reports said Arraf had been arrested by Syrian authorities during that country's uprising.
