Lines at airports across the country are expected to get longer as Air Canada's customer service reps hit the picket lines.
Air Canada's 3,800 ticket agents and call-centre staff went on strike early today, but the airline says the labour stoppage won't affect scheduled flights. The Canadian Auto Workers union, which represents the striking employees, said negotiations between Air Canada and its staff carried on until the midnight deadline, with disagreements over pensions and wages keeping the two sides apart. Air Canada is warning travellers to expect long lines at ticket booths, as about 1,700 managers have to fill in for the striking workers. The airline advised people to check in online before heading to the airport to help ease lineups.
