The South Park guys dominate the best in stage and show, winning nearly every major musical category.
The Book of Mormon cleaned up at the Tony Awards in New York last night, as the musical comedy created by the minds behind South Park picked up nine statuettes, including the honour for best musical. The foul-mouthed musical about two Mormons' misadventures in Africa also scooped up awards for best direction in a musical, best original score, best actress in a musical, and a slew of other ones that would astound the high-school teachers of co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker. In his acceptance speech, Parker thanked Mormonism founder Joseph Smith for being his “co-writer” in the widely praised musical. The War Horse, a tear-jerker play about a boy and his horse, nabbed five awards, including best play.
