The union representing high-school teachers is calling for its members to campaign against the Tories.
Public high-school teachers in Toronto will be allowed to take two days off to campaign for local NDP and Liberal candidates in Ontario's upcoming election, but not for Progressive Conservative – or Green, or Communist, or any other party – candidates. The teachers would have to attend training sessions put on by the two parties to get the days off and then commit to campaigning for a local candidate. The Toronto chapter of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation, the union representing the high-school teachers, said it would pay to cover substitutes should teachers take it up on the offer.
