Syria Promises Revenge for 'Massacre'

While no one can confirm if 120 Syrian police were killed by armed protesters yesterday, the government vows to retaliate.

The Syrian government is threatening to retaliate against anti-government protesters who they claim were responsible for killing 120 members of the state security force on Monday. While the government's report on the supposed massacre in Jisr al-Shughur cannot be verified one way or the other – no reporters have been allowed to cover the ongoing uprisings across Syria – the country's interior minister said the state's forces will respond with full force in the northern city. With more than 1,100 people believed to have died in the Syrian uprising already, the warning from President Bashar al-Assad's regime suggests the government and its security apparatus have no intention of easing their crackdown after two months of blood in the streets.
