The beatdown in Boston will join the ranks as one of the most lopsided games in Stanley Cup history.

The Boston Bruins dismantled the Vancouver Canucks 8-1 in a penalty-filled punch-up that, at times, looked a lot more like the Slap Shot films than professional hockey. Vancouver defenceman Aaron Rome sent Bruins forward Nathan Horton to the hospital with a late hit halfway through the first period, setting the tone of the match early. The Bruins responded in a big way in the second period, potting four goals, while netminder Tim Thomas turned away everything Vancouver shot at him. The B's unloaded another four in the final period as the number of players on each bench whittled down to well into the single digits due to injuries, ejections, and penalties – all told, the two teams garnered 135 penalty minutes. The teams meet again in Boston on Wednesday as the Bruins try to even it up.
