Betty Fox is Seriously Ill

The mother of Canadian icon Terry Fox does not have cancer, contrary to earlier media reports.

According to a statement released by the Terry Fox Foundation, Betty Fox, is seriously ill but she does not have cancer. Previous media reports said Fox was dying from cancer, but the released statement said those were inaccurate but "to respect her privacy, no other details will be provided." Other reports say Fox is staying at a hospice near Chilliwack, B.C., close to the east Vancouver community where the family lives. Betty Fox and her other son, Darrell, established and ran the Terry Fox Foundation since 1981 following Terry's death. The foundation has raised over $550 million for cancer research through their annual charity runs.
