The feds allege that the Democrat used campaign funds to cover up an affair in 2008.
Former vice-presidential candidate John Edwards is likely to face criminal charges today for allegations that he improperly paid to cover up an affair during his 2008 bid to be the Democrats' presidential candidate. The charges follow a two-year investigation into two large donations valued in the hundreds of thousands of dollars that Edwards allegedly received from friends to keep his mistress out of the public eye during the campaign. Investigators say that money should have been disclosed publicly because it contributed to his failed 2008 bid. Edwards, a former senator from North Carolina, ran as John Kerry's running mate in the 2004 election.
