The victim's family is outraged, but a review board could allow Vincent Li more time for supervised walks on hospital grounds.
Vincent Li, who beheaded a young man aboard a Greyhound bus in the summer of 2008, could soon be granted more freedom at the mental hospital where he's been receiving treatment. Doctors testified before a review board that Li has been responding well to treatment aimed at curbing his schizophrenia, which contributed to the brutal slaying of 21-year-old Tim McLean aboard the bus near Portage la Prairie, Man. In 2009, Li was found not criminally responsible for McLean's death because of mental illness. Doctors have asked that Li be allowed to go on supervised walks, any time between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., on the grounds of the Selkirk, Man., hospital. The review board will release its ruling later this week.
