Egypt's public prosecutor will pursue criminal charges against the ousted president for his role in the crackdown.
Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak will face charges over the deaths of protesters during the country's revolution this past winter. Egypt's public prosecutor said Mubarak and his two sons will stand trial on a number of charges relating to their time in power, including corruption and misappropriation of state funds. One police officer has already been sentenced to death for killing 20 protesters during the 18-day-long uprising, but there has yet to be any mention of the penalties the Mubaraks could face if convicted for their roles in attempting to quell the protests. As many as 840 people are believed to have been killed during the unrest.
