Jesse Willms is accused of defrauding customers of hundreds of millions of dollars with free or risk-free offers of products.

An Alberta-based online firm is being accused by the United States Federal Trade Commission of defrauding customers of $450-million. The U.S. agency filed the complaint, which seeks to stop illegal practices and demands repayment from the defendant, on May 16 against Edmonton-based Jesse Willms and ten companies he controls. Willms is accused of luring customers with free or risk-free offers of products, leading the customer to believe they only have to pay small shipping and handling fees. However, customers were often billed monthly for $79.95 without their consent, in addition to the free trial. Despite money-back guarantees, it was often difficult for the customers to receive a refund. Via his website, Willms said he runs a "compliant business".
