Postal Strike

Strike Looming for Canada Post

Canada's first postal strike since 1997 would see nearly 50,000 workers off the job – but your bills would still have to be paid on time.

Canadian postal workers could go on strike as soon as next Wednesday if their union and Canada Post can't agree to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement. Chief among the Canadian Union of Postal Workers' concerns is Canada Post's proposal to lower the starting wage of new employees from $24 an hour to $17.50. Canada Post must also contend with less mail being sent each year as more and more correspondence goes online. Almost all mail, except for unemployment, welfare, and pension cheques, would cease to be delivered if the 48,000 Canada Post employees decide to hit the picket lines.
