Queen in Dublin Despite Bomb Scare

Queen Elizabeth II has arrived in Ireland, marking the first time a British monarch has stepped foot in the country, despite a bomb threat and the promise of protests by anti-monarchy activists. The Queen's first visit was to Dublin, where she dined with Irish President Mary McAleese and was greeted by a 21-gun salute. Ahead of her arrival, police found a makeshift bomb aboard a bus headed to Dublin, and safely detonated it. A massive security detail of some 4,000 police and 2,000 soldiers is in place to ensure the safety of the Queen, who is the first member of the House of Windsor to visit Ireland since it won its independence from Britain in 1921.
