Mahmoud Jibril, foreign minister of Libya's National Transitional Council, is at the White House today to solidify ties with the U.S.

The Libyan rebels' foreign minister is meeting with the American national security adviser in a bid to have his government officially recognized by the United States. Mahmoud Jibril, a leading member of the nascent National Transitional Council, or NTC, is to meet with Tom Donilon at the White House today, a day after Britain agreed to host an embassy for the Libyan rebels in London. France, Italy, Gambia, and Qatar have all recognized the NTC as the legitimate government of the people of Libya, based out of the city of Benghazi. Meanwhile, Canadian and British warships in the Mediterranean Sea repelled an attack by gunboats loyal to Moammar Gadhafi on Friday.
