The annual 'March for Life' takes its anti-abortion message to Parliament Hill.
Anti-abortion protesters converged on Parliament Hill today for their annual “March for Life” through the streets of downtown Ottawa. Numbering well into the thousands, the crowd met to signal the passage of legislation in 1969 that made it legal to get an abortion with the permission of three doctors. Prime Minister Stephen Harper said during the election campaign that he would not reopen any debate about abortion in this session of Parliament, while about 60 MPs, mostly from the Conservative caucus, consider themselves anti-abortion. Some 200 counter-protesters were told to leave by police after arguments between the two camps broke out.
