Police discrimination against visible minorities needs to be remedied, says Quebec's Human Rights Commission.
A report from Quebec's Human Rights Commission urges the province to make racial profiling illegal and to re-examine how police officers are trained to deal with visible minorities. The report is the result of a year of public consultations with people from across the province who shared their stories of being stopped by police or running into difficulty with other public officials because of the colour of their skin. Among the commission's 92 recommendations are suggestions that the province define officially what racial profiling is, train police and school administrators to better recognize discrimination, and review anti-gang police operations.
