A month after it looked like Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh was set to step down, his forces continue to slaughter civilians.
Security forces in Yemen opened fire on a crowd of about 1,000 anti-government protesters yesterday, killing at least 13 people and injuring dozens more. The protesters had been setting up tents to join others camped out in the capital, Sanaa, in a demonstration calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to resign after 33 years of ham-fisted rule. Snipers hidden on rooftops and in nearby buildings then opened fire on the tents in Yemen's most deadly day since 52 protesters were killed on March 18. Saleh has toyed with a number of proposals that would see him step down with immunity from prosecution, but he's yet to commit to anything beyond continuing to crack down on protests.
