At least ten people died and more than 190 people were detained after a vicious riot broke out between Egyptian Muslims and Christians in Cairo on Saturday.
At least ten people have died and 186 people were injured during overnight clashes in Cairo that started after several hundred conservative Salafist Muslims gathered outside the Coptic Saint Mena Church. Those present were reportedly protesting against allegations that a Christian woman, who married a Muslim and wanted to convert to Islam, was being held against her will there. Gunfire was heard as rival groups threw firebombs and stones, and the church and some nearby homes were also set on fire. It took several hours for the military and emergency services to get the situation under control, and more than 190 people were detained as a deterrent against further violence.
