U.S. Releases Bin Laden Videos

U.S. officials unveil clips from five seized videos of Osama bin Laden that show he was still very much involved in al-Qaeda decisions.

U.S. officials released Saturday five undated videos that proved Osama bin Laden was still deeply involved in al-Qaeda decision-making, even as he stayed out of sight in Pakistan. The videos, which were seized at bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, show bin Laden watching a report about himself on television and practicing video addresses. They reveal a man who was still very conscious of his image, even dying his beard black for one filmed appearance. The sound was removed from the released clips by the Pentagon because it would be "inappropriate to spread the words of terrorists and propaganda messages, especially Osama bin Laden." The release of the videos is to help demystify bin Laden's invincibility mythology.
