SlutWalks Spread to U.K., U.S.

A raft of major cities will host their own SlutWalks, protests inspired by one in Toronto over a cop's comments on sexual assault.

Toronto's SlutWalk, a protest held in April over a police officer's comment that women shouldn't dress like “sluts” if they want to avoid being raped, has spread to the U.S and Britain with marches planned in London, Boston, Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and more. The protest makes a point of letting all participants dress how modestly or provocatively they choose to show that there's no shame in embracing one's sexuality, whether they're male or female. The rallies have proven to be celebratory affairs, but they also feature workshops and speeches on serious matters such as sexual violence. The officer who made the “slut” remark at York University in January remains on the force.
