War Crimes Charges Likely For Gadhafi & Co.

Rape, torture, and the use of cluster bombs are some of the charges that could be pressed against the Libyan regime.

The International Criminal Court has determined there is enough evidence to charge members of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's regime with crimes against humanity, the court's chief prosecutor announced today. Luis Moreno-Ocampo, who leads the team tasked by the UN Security Council to investigate war crimes in Libya, intends to file his application for arrest warrants in the coming weeks. The first charges are expected to be laid against Gadhafi and his inner circle for the clampdown on demonstrators at the onset of protests back in February, in which at least 500 civilians were killed. Libya's use of cluster bombs against the rebels and attacks against non-combatants are also likely to lead to more charges.
