The city's municipal election, set for this fall, would be the biggest yet to incorporate online voting.

The City of Vancouver has approved online voting for its upcoming municipal election this fall. If the B.C. provincial government signs off on city council's proposal, it will make Vancouver the largest city yet to have implemented online voting in Canada. Under the new system, voters would receive a personal identification number to pre-register and then a second PIN to vote. Supporters have argued that letting people vote from home would increase voter turnout. Halifax and the Ontario cities of Peterborough and Markham have all begun online voting systems, with turnout improving by a third in Markham.
