Following the death of Osama bin Laden, the RCMP are conducting a threat assessment to determine how Canadians' safety will be affected.
The RCMP are conducting a threat assessment to determine how Osama bin Laden's death will affect Canadians at home and abroad. "We are assessing right now the potential impact that this may have on Canada,” said Assistant Commissioner Gilles Michaud, head of National Security Criminal Investigations. Bin Laden had targeted Canada at one point, and Canadian authorities had thwarted terror plots planned for Canada by his supporters, most notably the Toronto 18. Although it's expected that terrorists could retaliate, Canada's threat level has not been raised, since the government operates at maximum vigilance regularly.
