The U.S. confirms its first Predator strike against Libya.
The Pentagon has confirmed the first strike made by an unmanned Predator drone aircraft in Libya. The pilotless aircraft were previously being used above Libya for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. The drones can hit targets more easily in urban areas, minimizing casualties, based on their ability to fly lower and, therefore, have better visibility. U.S. President Barack Obama approved of the air strikes on Thursday after Libya's government warned that tribes loyal to Moammar Gadhafi might take over the fight against the rebels in the western city of Misrata.
