The baby who's made headlines the world over has left the U.S. hospital that performed an operation that Canadian doctors said would kill him.

A Canadian infant with a fatal neurological disorder has left a hospital in the U.S. after receiving a tracheotomy so that he may die surrounded by his parents in Ontario. Joseph Maraachli was flown to a Missouri hospital last month for the tracheotomy, which an Ontario hospital refused to perform because it figured the child would die as soon as he was taken off a ventilator for the procedure. His parents sought the surgery because they figured it would prevent Joseph from choking to death and instead let him pass away relatively painlessly. The one-year-old was taken to a hospital upon landing in Canada, and should be taken to his Windsor, Ont., home before the day is out.
