The Liberal MP's attempt to settle with a disgruntled former nanny won't resume until after the election.
First the auditor general's report, then the integrity commissioner's audit, and now Liberal MP Ruby Dhalla's court case has been delayed by that dastardly federal election. Dhalla, a member from Brampton, Ont., filed a court application to impose a gag order on a nanny she employed. The nanny claims Dhalla's family exploited her and owes her money. The settlement would also give the nanny, Richelyn Tongson, $5,000. Dhalla's lawyer successfully convinced the presiding judge to adjourn hearings until June because his client was too busy campaigning in her hotly contested riding to focus on the case. When the allegations broke two years ago, Dhalla was forced to step down from her role as the Liberal youth and multiculturalism critic.
