Serbia's opposition leader has sworn off food and drink to get an election called in the latest instalment of unnecessary election news.

Frustrated that his calls for an early election are being rebuffed as unwarranted, the leader of Serbia's opposition has gone on a hunger strike. Tomislav Nikolic, the nationalist opposition head, stopped eating and drinking over the weekend in a bid to pressure pro-western President Boris Tadic into calling an election over claims of alleged corruption and economic mismanagement. Tadic has so far refused Nikolic's request, as he's committed to calling an election after the Eurpoean Union decides whether to admit Serbia in the fall. Say what you will about Canadian Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff, but at least he followed parliamentary procedure and didn't resort to self-mutilation to get his "unnecessary" election.
